Chris

I learn software by building things I actually want to use.

About me

I'm a self-taught developer. I care about understanding what the code is doing, making deliberate product decisions, and cleaning up the rough edges before I call something done.

Most of my earlier projects were web apps because Next.js gave me a fast way to turn ideas into something real. More recently I've been spending time with native macOS development in Swift and SwiftUI too.

I like software that feels simple on the surface. The interesting part for me is usually everything underneath that makes the simple version possible.

What I'm building

ZipMello

ZipMello is a Swift 6 ZIP and CBZ library I built while working on a personal Mac manga reader. It focuses on fast archive access, page reads, and reader-focused workflows.

BrewPulse

BrewPulse is a native macOS menu bar app for Homebrew. I started it because I forget to check package updates and would rather use a clean Mac interface than work in Terminal for routine maintenance.

The Free client and Homebrew core are open source.

How I got into this

One of the things that pushed me toward coding was reading the source code of a tool for a game I played. I wanted to understand how it worked, then I wanted to change things, then I wanted to build my own stuff.

That is still pretty much how I learn now.

Contact

I'm open to talking about interesting projects, especially small products and web work where I can stay close to the actual problem.
